“Cabral represented many of those important characteristics most sought after in a great leader. He was a man of the people, one who shared their concerns and who had faith in their ability to be the agents of change and the makers of history. He recognised that the problems faced by Portuguese Guinea and Cape Verde, the suffering caused as a result of Portugal’s oppressive colonial rule, had to be taken up for solution. Moreover, he recognised that it was only the people themselves who could solve these problems, that truly they were their own liberators. The great absence of leaders of his type in Africa, and in other continents, today only serve to make his life and work even more inspiring.”
